Bedford County Democrats will meet Aug. 30 at Egolf Park for social hour at 6 p.m. and business at 7 p.m.

Claysburg Area Farm Show begin on Sept. 6. People can enter exhibits from 2 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6. Premium books detailing entry information and rules are available at the Claysburg Library, the post office and local businesses in the Claysburg area. They also will be available at Claysburg Community Days on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14. The state Department of Agriculture has canceled egg entries this year, and feathers are not permitted in any craft item due to avian influenza.

Basketweavers Guild of Bedford County will meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Tatesville Methodist Church. The project will be a three-tired fruit basket. It will be woven on a pre-made iron frame using round reed to explore how to make color blocks and color spirals with three rod wale and four rod wale. Top bowl is 6 1/2 inches in diameter, middle 10 inches and bottom 12 inches. It disassembles for weaving and is topped with a little bird finial. Colors will be natural with smoked accents. The fruit basket is 18 inches tall. Cost is $89. Reed weaving is helpful. To register, mail a deposit of $39 to Judy Appleby at 501 W Frick Road, Waterfall, PA 16689 by Sept. 1. Back-to-School Giveaway will be hosted by the Woodbury Clothing Bank from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 12 and 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 at the Woodbury Community Center, 4100 Woodbury Pike. There will be clothing, book bags and other back-to-school items. For more information, call 814-793-4033.

Items for the Weekend Backpack Program to benefit students in the Bedford School District can be dropped off at Thomas Chevrolet until the end of August. Single-serve food items are sent home to cover two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and a snack to ensure these students have food for the weekend. All donations need to be single serve and microwavable, if needing to be heated. Items in need include instant oatmeal, granola bars, pop tarts, small boxes of cereal, mac and cheese, rice, soup, Hormel dinners, cups of noodles and soups, crackers, pudding, fruit and applesauce cups, fruit snacks, Goldfish, pretzels, raisins, popcorn and juice boxes.

H&BT Rails to Trails group will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Defiance Municipal Complex. Discussion will include formulating strategies for trail promotion and development as well as upcoming fundraising activities, including the Harvest Hayride and Fall Event on Sept. 24 and Glow Walk on Oct. 8. Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund will host a “Launch Party” on Sept. 17 at the Bedford Elks Club. The launch party is held prior to the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in the fall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with food stations opening at 6 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., the “Flying Ivories” will perform on dueling pianos that deliver an all request sing-a-long that’s part music and part comedy. Cost to attend is $30 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Founders Crossing in Bedford, Edward Jones in Everett or from any Pink Ribbon Fund board member. The Bedford County Pink Fund is a non-profit organization that provides support for women and men in their battles against breast cancer.

Bloody Run Historical Society exhibit at the Everett Free Library in August will feature the story of “Murder on Main Street.” On Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Everett High School auditorium, there will be a viewing of the video “Forgotten Heroes,” the Robert Hartsock story. Admission will be free; donations are appreciated. The society and the Everett Area Alumni Association are sponsoring the event.

Chicken barbecue dinners will be served pre-order and take-out only style from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Cumberland Valley Township Fire Hall, 4344 Bedford Valley Road, Bedford. Bedford High School Class of 1962 will meet for its 60th year reunion at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Bedford American Legion in Bedford.

Everett Free Library has announced a schedule of events. The book club will meet on the third Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library. The Aug. 16 book will be “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. Seniors and Sundaes group will meet at Tenley Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 17. Community members are 55 and older may attend to socialize, relax and connect over sundaes (non-dairy available). Children’s activities will be provided for seniors bringing along grandchildren.

Chestnut Ridge tractor and wagon rides will be offered Aug. 27, starting at 10 a.m. at the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church. Participants will view the area orchards during the 13-mile trip. A meal will be provided at the church following the ride. The rain date is Sept. 3.

Everett Lions Club will sponsor a Night of Racing fundraiser to support the Weicht/Hartsock Medal of Honor statue on the corner of Main and Hopewell streets. The races will take place on Oct. 15 at Down River Golf Course beginning at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for anyone wishing to eat beforehand. There will be 10 races and a special auction race, all previously recorded around the country and shown on video screens. Participants can “buy” and name a horse for $25. Horse tickets get one admission to the event. Jockeys are also available for sale for $25, although seating is limited for the ticket. Horse and jockey ticket holders win $50. During the event, attendees can bet a minimum of $2 per race on their favorite horse or horses in the lineup, with cash prizes for the winners. The Lions are also seeking program business and individual patrons for $10 to support the statue project, and horse and jockey sponsors are available for $50. Alumni reunion dinner for graduates of Smith, Replogle and Woodbury schools before 1958 and NBC classes of 1958 to 1962 will be held Oct. 8 at the former Replogle Elementary school in New Enterprise. Social time will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon. The Loysburg Theater group will entertain. Information letters will be sent later in the summer.
